The Owyhee River is really two rivers in one: the high-water spring and summer version and the low-water fall and winter version. In reality, the term “high water” is a bit of a misnomer, as normal high flows rarely exceed the 200 to 250 cubic feet per second (cfs) range.  Wading access is relatively easy on this “higher” level, making the Owyhee one of the few viable western destinations during the normal “runoff season” (April through sometime in June). The water typically drops in October to accommodate reservoir storage, and the flow will remain at 35 cfs until mid-April. Low water is about hunting individual fish and concentrating on holding water; high water is about searching for risers and nymph fishing the countless riffles and runs. In short, the Owhyee is a fabulous year round fishery.

Out of respect for spawning trout, Owyhee Fly Fisher only has specific dates available in October and November. – Dates of the spawn vary so please call for details.
